Transparency is the foundation of what we do. AllRecentArrests.us doesn't create records — we gather information that governments already publish, organize it, and make it searchable in one place. This page tells you exactly which sources sit behind our prison directory, inmate locator, and background-check tools, and how we stand behind their accuracy.
1. Our Sourcing Principle
Every piece of data on this site comes from a publicly available government or public-record source. We aggregate, normalize, and present that information — we never generate, fabricate, or speculate about any individual's record. If a government agency has not made a piece of information public, it does not appear on AllRecentArrests.us.
Our data falls into three categories, each with its own sources and update cadence:
Facility Profiles
Hand-researched contact, visiting, and location details for prisons and jails nationwide.
Inmate Records
Custody and booking data drawn from official federal, state, and county inmate rosters.
Background Records
Broader public-record searches delivered through a licensed third-party partner.
2. Prison & Facility Profiles
Our facility database covers thousands of federal prisons, state correctional institutions, and county jails. Each profile is researched by cross-referencing several official sources:
- State Departments of Corrections (DOC) — official facility directories, rosters, and contact databases published by each state.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) — the BOP's public facility directory and inmate-locator system.
- County Sheriff's offices — publicly posted contact details, visiting hours, and jail rosters.
- City & municipal websites — local jail and police lockup information pages.
- Official mapping & business listings — used only to verify addresses and phone numbers.
- Direct verification — where possible, we contact facilities to confirm visiting hours, phone carrier, and mailing details.
Facility details change often. Visiting hours, phone carriers, and mailing rules are updated by facilities without notice. Always call the facility directly to confirm before you travel or send mail or money.
3. Inmate Records
Our inmate database is populated exclusively from official public inmate-search tools that agencies are required to publish under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and equivalent state open-records laws. Sources include:
- Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator — name, register number, facility, gender, and projected release date for federal inmates.
- State DOC offender search portals — public offender-lookup tools maintained by each state's Department of Corrections.
- County jail public rosters — booking rosters published by county sheriff websites and jail booking systems.
Records reflect the last sync, not real time. Depending on the source, our data may lag from 24 hours up to about 7 days. Transfers, releases, and new bookings may not appear immediately. Contact the facility to confirm current custody status.
4. Background Check Data
Our optional background check tool searches a much wider set of public and commercial data sources — court filings, arrest and booking records, property and voter records, business filings, contact directories, and vital records where publicly available.
This service is powered by our third-party partner, TruthFinder, which is responsible for aggregating and delivering those reports. AllRecentArrests.us is not the record holder for background-check data; see TruthFinder's own privacy policy for how they source and handle it.
5. Legal Basis for Publishing Public Records
FOIA and state open-records laws give every member of the public the right to access government records, including inmate rosters, court filings, arrest records, and facility directories. We make those already-public records easier to find and understand — we do not alter the underlying data or claim copyright over government-created records.
Not a Consumer Reporting Agency. AllRecentArrests.us is not a Consumer Reporting Agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Our information may not be used for employment, tenant, credit, or insurance decisions. For FCRA-compliant screening, use a licensed agency such as GoodHire.
6. Data Accuracy & Update Frequency
| Dataset | Primary source | Typical freshness |
|---|---|---|
| Facility profiles | State DOCs, BOP, county sheriffs | Reviewed quarterly & on report |
| Inmate records | Official inmate-locator systems | Synced within 24 hours–7 days |
| Background records | TruthFinder (third party) | Per partner's own schedule |
We work to keep every dataset accurate and current, but because we depend on external agencies that update on their own timelines, some lag is unavoidable. When in doubt, treat the original agency as the authoritative source.
7. Reporting a Correction
Found something inaccurate in a facility profile — a wrong phone number, address, or visiting detail? Email tom.david@allrecentarrests.us with the facility name, the page URL, and the correction. Our team reviews correction reports and updates verified changes promptly.
8. Removing Your Record
We support every individual's right to have their public-record profile removed from AllRecentArrests.us. We process valid removals within 30 days, free of charge, and without requiring proof of expungement.
Submit through the form, with the exact URL. Use the data removal form — email removal requests are not tracked or processed. After removal, cached copies may linger in Google or Bing for up to 90 days; use the search engine's own removal tool to speed that along.
9. Questions About Our Data
